abstract = "In a distributed system in which nodes communicate over a single
physical medium using Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) and operate
without a central clock, timetriggered transmissions require a
clock correction algorithm that allows each nodes local clock to
be in agreement with all other nodes local clocks avoiding
collision when accessing the physical medium. In such algorithms,
it is common to use an averaging function of time deviations
observed by each node on transmissions made by all other nodes.
This paper shows that these averaging functions are special cases
of a more generic, weighted averaging function, assuming an ideal
situation whereby local clocks do not drift apart and initially
differ only by a time offset.",
